On November 5th, 2022, we had the privilege of participating in the 18th Annual Daisy Mountain Veterans Parade. This annual event is held in Anthem Arizona a beautiful community just north of Phoenix Arizona. As we were preparing for the honor of participating, I was reminded of my Father-in-Law who proudly served in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry during the Vietnam War. He continued to serve in the VFW until his untimely death.
The community of Anthem, just like Made in the Shade, has long supported veterans, active military, and their families. In the Anthem community park the beautiful veteran’s memorial stands. At 11:11 am on 11/11 each year the sun shines brilliantly through the five pillars in the monument and then through the ellipses of the memorial to illuminate The Great Seal of the United States.
The significance of this memorial is summarized below. (Anthem Community website)
- The five pillars represent the unity of the five branches of the United States military serving steadfastly together.
- Staggered in size with their appropriate military seal placements on each pillar, the pillars are arranged in the Department of Defense order of precedence.
- At precisely 11:11 a.m. each Veterans Day (Nov. 11), the sun’s rays pass through the ellipses of the five-Armed Services pillars to form a solar spotlight on the glass mosaic of The Great Seal of the United States.
- The brick pavers within the Circle of Honor are inscribed with the names of U.S. servicemen and women, symbolizing the ‘support’ for the Armed Forces. The pavers are red, the pillars are white, and the sky is blue to represent America’s flag.
- The circle, flanked by two “Soldier Rows,” represents an unbreakable border.
